Pet Insurance

We strongly advise pet insurance to help cover the costs of veterinary treatment. Like any other insurance, we hope you never have to use it, but it is an amazing thing to be able to offer the best care for pets without the stress of large bills. Although we are not insurance providers, we can give you details of companies currently offering pet insurance.

Advanced surgical & imaging procedures

We have 3 vets who have undergone further training and have achieved Membership of the Australia and New Zealand College of Veterinary Surgeons in small animal surgery

Surgical procedures

  • Our hospital is equipped with modern minimally invasive equipment to allow us to perform keyhole procedures including female desexing, male cryptorchid (undescended testicle) desexing, liver biopsy and laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy for giant breed dogs.

  • We offer advanced orthopaedic procedures for issues including fractures, dislocations and cruciate ligament disease. Dr Max performs Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) which is considered the gold standard procedure for cruciate disease.

  • Our vets are comfortable and experienced in performing major soft tissue surgeries including complex skin tumour removals with skin flap reconstruction, gall bladder removal, gastrointestinal resection and repair and major wound repairs.

Imaging procedures

  • The Bendigo Animal Hospital uses a modern digital x-ray system. This allows for superior digital radiological imaging, for the enhancement, refinement and storage of captured images. These images can be immediately assessed by our veterinary staff, clients may view them during their discharge appointments and, most importantly, images can immediately be sent to specialist veterinary radiologists for expert assessment, if required.

  • The benefit of digital imaging is that it allows for image enhancement and, if necessary, immediate email communication to a specialist for a second opinion.

  • Use of endoscopic imaging enables direct visualization of the upper respiratory tract, more accurately enabling the identification and removal of foreign bodies, such as grass seeds, and the assessment of conditions such as tumours, etc. We are also able to investigate and treat gastric conditions, such as stomach for ulcers, tumours, and foreign bodies.

Our visiting specialists

We have surgical and ophthalmological specialist vets visiting the clinic on a regular basis and can organise specialist level procedures to be performed in Bendigo rather than have owners travel to Melbourne.
